Mini Drug Store Haul

On my little trip up the city to pick up my MK bag I dropped into Boots to replenish my make up stocks. Its mad I have so much make up but I always end up re-stocking on the same things.

So today I stepped out of my comfort zone and purchased new products of my classics that I’d run out of.

I’m looking forward to this new concealer, I’ve had many of my regular YouTuber’s recommend it as they had the wake me up which I enjoyed.

I have picked up a new mascara. I’d been using the Clinique High Impact for probably the last 4 years. I just felt recently that it was really, really lacking, my lashes just looked short and stubby, it seemed to clump them badly and I just wanted a fresh start with a new type.

Again this has been recommended by several YouTuber’s. I will be doing in-depth reviews on all these products.

Last classic replacement was my Gimmie Brow. I’ve been using this for goodness only knows how long?! I don’t remember its been years. However since the re-launch. I’m not sure if they changed the formula or not but I’m just not happy with it anymore.

I’m quite excited about this one! I think the colour will match my brows really well and hopefully give some nice definition as well as taming them for the day.

Two other cheeky little purchases were a nude eyeliner to hopefully help me look more awake. I’ve also recently fallen back in love with the bold black eyeliner look, so I’ve picked up a nice soft black liner.

As I have said I’ll be doing an in-depth review of each of these and let you know what I think of them in place of my ‘classics’.

Michael Kors Bag Review

I went to Bicester Village in October with my Mum and Sister. It was a really beautiful, sunny, if cold day and was lovely to spend some quality time together. We shopped, lunched and I impulsively bought something as I had been saving so hard lately I just wanted to be a little wild!

060

So, under ‘bad’ influence. I brought my first Michael Kors bag. It was half price, brand new in and such a stunning statement colour!

061

I adore it, sadly I cannot find this any where on the internet to link it but I’ve attached Michael’s site for you.

Now I had gotten this out of its dust sleeve and used it probably 3 times. On the 4th time, out to dinner with friends, I head back to my car, laid it on the passenger seat and noticed a blue disk in the foot well.

dav

I was really confused as I picked it up, I sat for ages trying to figure it out what it was. Turns out its the blue disc from the inner keyring! Now if this was a £20 bag I’d of either just thrown the disc away or glued it back in myself.

dav

But this bag is worth £320.

This may be a drop in the ocean to some people, it may not be considered much for a ‘designer’ bag but for me? It was an investment and to have this happen after 4 uses I was so upset.

I’ve gathered everything up and am taking it back to my local store to see what they can do about it, if it can be replaced/returned or if they can send it ‘away’ to be fixed.

Edit: They thankfully took the bag in, no quabbles. They asked if i’d like to return it or send it off for repair, they seemed as upset as I did that it broke. So in 4 weeks hopefully it’ll be back and better than new!

As I continue to lose weight I’ve found that I’ve started to look at dresses a lot more. As anyone who know’s me well, dresses (unless maxi) are pretty alien for me but I have been looking at them more and more. I’ve linked several below that I’ve really fallen in love with and will be keeping them on my ASOS wishlist for when I’m at the size I want and may have the confidence to just throw one on!

Michael Kors – Birthday Treat

It was my birthday on May 23rd. Yay me, another year done. Boo, getting too close to 30 now! I digress.

I was out enjoying the lovely spa trip and treatment that Mr Guine got me, I thought while in town I’d grab some presents for a few friends. While walking back towards the parking area I looked at the lovely new Michael Kors store that’s opened in Milton Keynes.

I wanted to get a card holder. I rarely use a bag and my beautiful Ted Baker purse was taking a battering due to being in constant use.

I haven’t splashed out on myself in a long time, probably my last birthday and it felt like all my money was going towards a house deposit. So I thought stuff it, I’m going to go in and have a look.

Baring in mind, I have no make up on, oily hair from my spa treatment and I’m in jeans and tank top. The sales assistant was lovely, there was absolutely no judgement (which can happen in these places, lets be honest) she happily located the holders, pulled out well over 10 colours, let me handle and properly look at them. I loved this and it made me even happier to purchase.

So I paid, she bagged, wished me a lovely weekend and I’m the owner of a gorgeous new card holder.

Happy Birthday to me!

*Side note, all the links that I found to this holder had a high mark up on them around £20 on each site. I paid £40 in the Michael Kors store directly, so I recommend if you want one and have a store near you buy from them.

Jelly Shoes

I remember being a child in the 90’s and all the rage was jelly shoes. Now this obsession has never really left me and it took me a while as an adult to work up the courage to buy some. Ridiculous really as it’s just a pair of shoes right? But you know judgement and all.

However when making a Wish List I saw these gorgeous soft lilac ones on Asos, not only were they made for adults, in my size but they were on sale too! They were throwing themselves at me.

So you know what? I bought them!

dav

They are really lovely to wear and the size (I’m a UK3) Fit to a T. Soft round the edges, secure along the back, I’ve had no blisters while ‘breaking them in’ and they are very comfortable. The feel of the ‘heel’ is non-existent, its like walking on flats, super comfy.

The only downside is when your feet swell slightly in the heat they feel a little tight along the small toe side but this is easily ignored.

dav

They are still available and on sale but in limited sizes, they come in lilac, black and white.

Resonating Articles

I read an article recently by Nicole Mowbray, she spoke about the ‘gateway’ buys. These are the first large purchases you make that change you purchasing habits, normally, for life. She spoke about what her first splurge was and it got me thinking about mine. Way back in the day when I was about 16 and I had my first full time job.

I’d been paid my first wage and I was over the moon, I had never, never had this much money. I wondered what to do with it, because amazingly my first instinct was not to just spend it all. That’s when my work ‘friends’ influence reared its head.

Their recommendation was that I spend it, I should go out and buy something big and make that first pay packet memorable. I know that I could of used self control and said no, I wanted to save it or lied and said ‘yeah, I spent it all.’

But you know hindsight is a bitch for a reason, I was 16 and impressionable.

I got the bus up to the city and wondered round, by myself. I ended up in Boots, the big beauty and health store, I strolled round all the make up I usually bought. Typical things like the Dream matte mousse foundation and Make Up collection eyeliners. I didn’t think of these as treats they were simply what I was already using and had been using since I was 13 when I first got into make-up.

So I was stood, indecisive about whether I should bother.

Making my way out I walked passed the Benefit counter and a life long love of make up and beauty was born. I spoke to the assistant and she ran me through a whole list of products. I vividly remember being in awe of the High Beam Highlighter, the first time I’d heard of such a thing; and their, an adoration for Bad Gal eyeliner was born.

The assistant was lovely, she did a whole make over for me and at the end I think she loved me as I’d just seriously bumped her commission up, can you guess why? I bought every single product she used on me. That came to roughly £150.

I think this was the time that my ‘splurging gateway’ opened. Since then I don’t think that I’ve ever curbed my spending. It has always just escalated until it reached the plateau that it was last year before more serious things came about such as wedding and house deposits.

I believe its possible to change your gateway and control this urge, you just have to think, whats more important. Something that will last a few weeks/months or something that could potentionally last decades? I’ve answered this question for myself in the last 10 months.

What was your gateway buy?
